Luck of the Draw For Maeve at Fundraiser!

Well! Doesn’t Maeve look thrilled with her new wheels? The little tot won this super all-electric Nitrotek Bumper Car on a Christmas Craft Fair tombola!

The fund-raiser was organised by Diane Jackson, Gill Whittaker and Pauline Roberts, to raise funds for Friends of Marple Memorial Park, Marple Dementia Drop-in, and St Anne’s Hospice.

At Hawk Green Reading Rooms last Sunday, (Nov 24th), they raised a total of £390 to share equally between the three causes! Thank you! Thanks also to everyone who supported the event including the great local businesses who donated prizes: White’s Butchers, Mrs Finch Cleaning, High Lane Garage, Nitrotek, Independent Fitters and Ironwood Metal Art.

Some prizes were a little too big to go on the tombola table though, as Di recalls. “Omar at Nitrotek has always been a generous supporter of Friends of Marple Memorial Park,” said Diane. “I couldn’t believe it when he brought round the electric bumper car though. How fantastic - but of course it would really need a driver exactly the right size to win it!”

Enter Maeve. The youngster will be three on Christmas Eve. She had arrived as the Fair was opening with mum Alison in tow.

“Maeve wanted to head straight for the cake stall for a cookie but I needed change for a £10 note,” said Alison.

“The tombola was next to the cakes so I bought £5 worth of tickets. That was 20 tickets so Maeve and I took a handful each. We knew our ticket number 945 was a winner because it ended in a five, but it took us a while to find the prize - just because it was so big!

“Maeve was then so excited. She immediately climbed straight into it and strapped herself in. Other stall holders and visitors crowded round, clapping and cheering. The electrics hadn’t yet been set up and so Maeve was given a little push around. She was laughing her head off.

“I had thought of saving the car for her birthday but there was no hope of that. It’s difficult to get her out of it she’s loving it so much.”

Happy motoring, Maeve!
